Junior’s late scoring carries Garrett girls

Junior Katlin Wisel scored 20 points to lead Garrett’s girls basketball team to a 60-45 victory over Woodlan in a Class 3A sectional opener at Bishop Dwenger on Tuesday night.

The Railroaders had a 25-12 lead heading into the third quarter, then Wisel scored nine of her team’s next 16 points, to help Garrett increase its lead to 14 points.

Teammate Brandi Dawson scored 18 points.

Taylor Smith added 13.

Woodlan’s Lauren Ehle and Haley Hostetler scored 14 points apiece.

NORTHROP 45, DEKALB 43, OT: Aleah Swary had 16 points, including a team-best three in overtime, as the Bruins won a Class 4A game at Snider.

Nevada Jones added 12 points.

DeKalb, which was led by Hayley Martin’s 13 points, squandered a 25-13 halftime lead.

That collapse began with a 12-8 run by the Bruins in the third quarter.

Jones scored a team-best five points in that quarter.

SOUTH SIDE 61, WAYNE 30: Ariana Simmons’ 14 points paced the Archers in a Class 4A game at Homestead.

Brittni Clopton added 12.

For Wayne, Joey Stanford had 17 points.

The game began with a 23-6 South Side run.

The Archers kept it up with a 26-15 run in the second and third quarters combined.

HOMESTEAD 80, JAY COUNTY 36: Josie Fisher scored 22 points and Sydney Buck added 15.

Homestead opened the game with a 25-11 run and kept pouring it on with a 34-12 surge in the second and third quarters, combined.

WARSAW 49, ELKHART MEMORIAL 37: In Dunlap, the Tigers got 18 points from Jennifer Walker-Crawford to win the Class 4A game at Concord.

Nicki Grose added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Lindsay Baker had 10 points.

The game was tied at 8 in the second quarter, but then the Tigers went on a 27-15 run to take a commanding lead.

NORTHWOOD 53, WAWASEE 29: In Nappanee, the Panthers started off with a 16-3 run and never wavered.

Wawasee was led by KiLee Knafel’s 19 points in the Class 3A game at NorthWood.

BISHOP LUERS 69, ADAMS CENTRAL 41: In Bluffton, Allison Butler scored 18 points for the Knights, who also got 14 from Erin Butler, in the Class 2A game.

Emma Wolfe and Tashayla Sutorius scored 12 apiece for the Knights.

Their teammate, Kayla Knapke, added 11 points.

The Flying Jets’ Briona Case had 13 points.

Bess Fiechter scored seven.

Bishop Luers began the game with a 21-10 run and was still up by nine at halftime. The Knights pulled away with a 37-18 second-half run.

SOUTH ADAMS 41, BLUFFTON 37: The Starfires pulled away with a 17-10 fourth-quarter run.

HAMILTON 48, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN 25: In a Class A game at Canterbury, Lindsey Stoy scored 14 points and the Marines’ 24-10 game-opening run held up.

Lakeland was paced by Emily Catron’s 10 points.

Hamilton opened with a 14-4 run and the Marines never wavered.

SOUTHERN WELLS 63, LIBERTY CHRISTIAN 6: In Poneto, Carissa Carter had 12 points and Ashton Prible 10 for the Raiders in a Class A game at home.

The Raiders opened with a 14-1 run and never looked back.
