Nancy Rehm’s killer held on drug counts

Mauricio

A man convicted of killing a Fort Wayne woman in 1982 was apprehended with more than 2 pounds of marijuana last week in LaGrange County, according to the sheriff’s department.

Sheriff’s officers pulled over Mark Mauricio on Friday at U.S. 20 and Townline Road. A police dog detected the marijuana in the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox he was driving, police said.

Mauricio, 50, of Fort Wayne was booked into the LaGrange County Jail on initial charges of possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana and operating a vehicle while intoxicated by a controlled substance.

His bail was set at $6,000.

Mauricio shot and killed 20-year-old Nancy Rehm, a basketball standout at Bishop Luers High School and Indiana Tech.

The shooting occurred Feb. 3, 1982, while Mauricio and his brother, Arnold, were trying to steal two snowmobiles on Schick Street just north of Indiana Tech on Washington Boulevard.

Mauricio was convicted of murder and sentenced to 60 years in prison.

His sentence was reduced through good behavior, and prison records show he was released from prison in February 2012.
