Darrell Hazell has his first recruiting class at Purdue in the books.
The Boilermakers signed 23 players on Wednesday, the first day prospects could sign with college's this year.
Hazell replaced Danny Hope as Purdue's coach after Hope was fired a day Purdue lost to Indiana 56-35 Nov. 24.
Purdue was able to hang on to 10 recruits, who committed before Hope was fired, and Hazell and his staff hustled to fill out the class after he was hired on Dec. 5.
Purdue continued to get prospects out of Florida with five coming from the Sunshine State, and the Boilermakers also landed three players from Indiana.
Among the in-state recruits are Bishop Luers cornerback Tyvel Jemison, Terre Haute South Vigo quarterback Danny Etling and Lake Central running back David Yancey.
"They hit a home run at the quarterback position," Steve Wiltfong, 247Sports national writer, said. "Danny Etling, one of the top players in the state, one of the top quarterbacks in the country in my opinion. Him deciding to stick with Coach Hazell and Purdue and enroll early was a big deal."
Wiltfong also liked the players the Boilers added to their defensive back field from Florida in Leroy Clark and Austin Logan.
"Leroy Clark was one of the top athletes to come out of Florida," Wiltfong said. "He had some really big time offers. I think he will make an instant impact in West Lafayette and their secondary. Another guy they got out of Florida that's going to help in the secondary, Austin Logan. He's another guy that I think has a chance to come in and play early.
"Purdue has done a nice job of recruiting guys from Florida that have come in and make an impact in the secondary, and I think those two will."
