Cadets' offense steps up as well

A lot of the talk after Concordia's 58-41 sectional-opening win at Bishop Dwenger on Tuesday was about the Cadets' defense in the second half.

And rightfully so, as the defending Class 3A state champion Cadets held the ACAC co-champion Lions to 16 points combined in the third and fourth quarters.

But Concordia's offense got things going in the second half as well and helped to speed the tempo up more to their liking.

"We thought we were a little quicker overall, and we wanted to run conversion and get some easy stuff on (the offensive) end of the floor," Concordia coach Dave Miller said. "We didn't do that in the first half."

The Cadets made 12 of 18 from the field and 11 of 15 from the free-throw line in the second half.

Courtney Smith scored 17 of her 18 points, and Olivia Hahn had nine of 11 in the second half as the Cadets outscored the Lions 38-16.
