Van Wert – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating an injury crash on Van Wert Willshire Rd at Richey Road southwest of Van Wert in Pleasant Township. The crash occurred at 4:05 PM Monday.
A 2004 Blue Bird School Bus driven by Patricia S. Woodruff, age 54, of Van Wert, was northbound on Richey Rd. A 2007 Ford Focus driven Robert L. Roehm, age 26, of Rockford, was westbound on Van Wert Willshire Rd. Woodruff failed to yield to the westbound Focus as she attempted to cross the intersection northbound. Roehm struck the side of the school bus and both vehicles came to rest on the roadway.
The school bus was transporting students home from the Van Wert Elementary, Junior and Senior High Schools. One student was injured in the crash and was transported to the Van Wert County Hospital by Brickner EMS. Roehm and his passenger, Amanda A. Roehm, age 25, were treated for minor injuries on scene by Brickner EMS personnel.
The intersection of Van Wert Willshire Rd and Richey Rd was closed for approximately one hour during the scene clean up. The Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Brickner EMS, Ohio City Volunteer Fire Department, Van Wert Sheriff’s Office, and Van Wert City School Administrators.
