North-side duplex in flames; 5 escape

Three adults and two children safely escaped from a burning duplex late Saturday on Fort Wayne’s north side, according to the city fire department.

A woman who lived on the first floor noticed smoke, called the fire department about 11:50 p.m. and went outside with her two children, the department said.

Firefighters were sent to the duplex at 1060 Delaware Ave., near Crescent Avenue and East State Boulevard. After the fire department arrived, two adults evacuated the upstairs apartment on their own.

Firefighters quickly extinguished flames in the attic, which caused moderate damage.

No one was injured, the department said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
