Purdue center A.J. Hammons was named the Big Ten freshman of the week, the conference announced Monday.
The 7-foot freshman averaged 24.5 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in losses to Indiana (97-60 Wednesday) and Northwestern (75-60 Saturday).
Hammons scored a career-high 30 points and had five blocks and five rebounds against Indiana, and he had 19 points and 13 rebounds against Northwestern. This is Hammons first freshman of the week honor.
