Woman sought in purse holdup

Files allege she boasted of theft, had buying spree

Dennison

– Police are searching for a woman charged with robbing a customer at a local pharmacy last month after relatives told investigators she bragged about the holdup.

Traci L. Dennison, 37, entered the Walgreens at Indiana 1 and Tonkel Road about 8:30 p.m. Jan. 11 and approached the checkout with an item, according to court documents.

As the cashier scanned the item, Dennison pulled a black handgun and demanded money, court records said.

The cashier was not able to open the register, so Dennison turned to a customer behind her and demanded that she hand over her purse. The woman gave up her purse and Dennison fled the store in a minivan, court records said.

She then returned home in an “excited state” and was “bragging about the robbery” to her son, court records said.

Dennison then took her son and drove to a gas station where she used the woman’s stolen credit cards to put fuel in her vehicle. A short time later, she went to a store and bought gift cards, an Xbox Live subscription and toothbrushes with the same card, court records said.

Dennison’s brother and her two children brought the stolen purse to Fort Wayne police who, after watching video from the pharmacy, gas station and store, identified Dennison as the robber, according to court documents.

Her older son told police he was in the van with his mother when she pulled into the Walgreens parking lot and removed the gun from the glove box. He grew frightened and fled to his home nearby, according to court documents.

She had been living in the 4800 block of Pleasant Valley Drive with her family, but her brother told police that she had since left the state, court records said. Dennison also goes by the last name of Copeland, police said.

She was formally charged Wednesday with robbery and attempted robbery.

Anyone with information about Dennison’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Allen County Sheriff’s Department Warrants Division at 449-7636 or dispatch at 449-7661.
