15 Indy students hurt in fight with pepper spray

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A fight involving pepper spray sent 15 Indianapolis students to a hospital and an evacuation of their high school.

Lawrence Township schools spokeswoman Mary Louise Bewley says the fight began Wednesday afternoon with a fight in a common area of Lawrence Central High School on the city's northeast side. Someone pulled a fire alarm after a student released pepper spray.

Students were evacuated to the school gymnasium, but once there, pepper spray was released again, and the gym was evacuated.

WTHR-TV reports 15 students were treated in a parking lot for asthma symptoms, then transported to a hospital to be evaluated.

School dismissed at the normal time, but after-school activities were canceled.
