3-vehicle DeKalb crash kills Ohio woman

A northwest Ohio woman died Wednesday morning after her car veered into an oncoming lane on Indiana 427, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department said.

Saralee A. Handy, 48, of the Edon area, was going northeast on the state highway north of Waterloo shortly before 7:45 a.m. when the Ford Focus went left of center east of County Road 39, according to a statement from the sheriff’s department.

It said Thomas E. Suntken, 60, of rural Hamilton, tried to avoid the collision but his Ford pickup was struck and forced off the road.

Handy’s car spun and was struck by a tow bar mounted on the rear bumper of a Chevy Blazer driven by Glen A. Crawford, 44, of Angola, police said.

Handy died from internal injuries and Suntken had a badly broken ankle, the sheriff’s department said. No injuries were reported in the Crawford SUV.
