Volleyball team begins MIVA schedule

Spent some time with Arnie Ball today at the weekly volleyball luncheon.

Ball said he'll get a fairly good handle on what kind of team he has when the Mastodons open their MIVA schedule Friday and Saturday against the two teams rated below them in the preseason poll.

Lindenwood visits the Gates Center on Friday, and Quincy comes into town Saturday.

IPFW was picked sixth in the preseason poll, while Lindenwood was seventh and Quincy was eighth.

The Mastodons (3-2) are coming off a 3-0 win over a team from Lourdes that, according to Ball, "was much better than I thought."

Junior Eddie Rivera leads the team with 54 kills. The next four are bunched together. Andy Sellan has 35, Bryan Saunders and Ramon Burgos have 33 each, and Nick Smalter has 29.

Steve Warden blogs all things IPFW.
