LAOTTO – Eric Freeman, director of Indiana Artisan Inc., will be the speaker at an informational meeting Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Country Heritage Winery, 0185 County Road 68, south of LaOtto on Indiana 3.
All artists, food artisans and producers and the public are invited. Reservations are not required but would be helpful in planning; call the Noble County Convention & Visitors Bureau at 599-0060 or toll-free 1-877-202-5761.
Freeman will discuss what Indiana Artisan is, how artisans can apply, and the development of artisan trails in Indiana.
Freeman is a graduate of DePauw University and Notre Dame University. He worked in public relations for Conner Prairie, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Duke Realty, United Water, Culver Academy and Hanover College before joining Indiana Artisan in 2008.
Artisan trails feature the work and products of local artists and artisans, heritage and cultural sites and public art. The Noble County Convention & Visitors Bureau is leading the effort to establish the Route 6 Artisan Trail in Indiana, with the first section of the trail in DeKalb and Noble counties.
The mission of Indiana Artisan Inc. is to develop a brand for Indiana-made goods, promote handcrafted and value-added food products made in Indiana, tell the stories of local artists and artisans, and provide education, networking opportunities and technical assistance. Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman launched Indiana Artisan in 2008 as a joint venture with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, Indiana Office of Tourism Development, Indiana State Department of Agriculture and Indiana Arts Commission. Participating artisans have their work reviewed by a jury panel of professionals in the statewide arts and food community.
