South Shore service resumes following derailment

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Northern Indiana’s South Shore commuter rail line has resumed service following a derailment that halted most train service for hours.

The Times of Munster reported (http://bit.ly/123Mcaj) a derailment early Monday at the commuter line’s Michigan City rail yard allowed only two trains to depart the East Chicago station for their scheduled Chicago stops.

But all other service was suspended until late morning, keeping those trains out of service during the morning rush hour.

No injuries were reported in Monday’s derailment.

South Shore said Chicago’s Metra Electric will honor ticket-holding South Shore passengers who rode Metra into Chicago on Monday morning.
