Gaines nominated but doesn't win

Any other week, and IPFW senior guard Frank Gaines would have had a solid shot at winning the Summit League Player of the Week award.

After all, he scored 29 points and dropped in the game-winning free throws with 3.1 seconds left to lift IPFW past IUPUI on Saturday.

But this wasn't any other week.

Oakland's Travis Bader won the award, and for good reason. He scored the NCAA's highest single-game total last week when he torched IUPUI for 47 points, including making 11 three-pointers. Two days later, in an Oakland win over Western Illinois, Bader scored 26 points.

IPFW has just one men's game this week, when it plays at Nebraska Omaha on Thursday. The same night, the women will be home for a 7 p.m. tip against Nebraska Omaha.
