Big day for IPFW hoops

It was going to be hard to top IPFW's women's 57-55 victory over Oakland earlier, but the Mastodons' 80-79 overtime win over IUPUI in the men's game did.

Frank Gaines dropped two free throws with 3.1 seconds remaining in overtime to give IPFW the victory over IUPUI. The 6-foot-4 senior finished with 29 points - a marked improvement from his eight-point game two days earlier against Western Illiinois.

Gaines, who was 6 of 9 from three-point range, said he didn't shoot a three in pre-game warmup.

"I was just going to play," he said.

How did he survive his shooting slump?

"Just staying in the gym; staying positive; talking to my family; talking to (head coach Tony) Jasick a lot, having meetings with him," Gaines said. And just continue the repetition outside of practice and stuff."
