U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts on Friday told graduates of the northern Indiana Catholic boarding school he graduated from 40 years ago that persistence is the most essential quality to success and is the only trait each personINDIANAPOLIS – A Michigan attorney claims in a lawsuit that former Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita and former Indianapolis prosecutor Carl Brizzi used unwarranted accusations against her about a cemetery theft scheme to enhance their political reputations.
Sherry Katz-Crank was indicted in 2008 on theft charges related to a scheme to siphon away $24 million set aside to maintain the graves of people who had paid in advance for their funerals. She was later acquitted.
The lawsuit filed last month in federal court in Michigan contends that prosecutors ignored evidence in Katz-Crank’s favor and that Rokita and Brizzi used her indictment to advance their political careers.
The court issued summonses last week for several defendants, including Rokita, who is now a U.S. representative.
Neither Rokita nor Brizzi returned phone calls seeking comment.
