Fire damages home on Gaywood

Fort Wayne firefighters responded to a house fire on the city’s south side about 12:30 a.m. to find flames and smoke in the attic, according to a fire department statement.

Crews at 5215 Gaywood Drive brought the blaze under control within 15 minutes and contained the fire damage to the attic, while the first floor sustained moderate smoke and water damage.

One person who was at the home, just south of East Pettit Avenue, safely evacuated. No injuries were reported, according to the statement.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical.
