Shantrell K. Moore, 21, was accused of entering a woman’s apartment in November and holding a knife to her throat while trying to rape her.
The alleged assault stopped when the woman’s sister came into the room after supposedly hearing her cry and plead for help, court documents said.
Moore told police he was actually invited into the apartment by the woman.
In court documents, Moore said he had had a lot to drink that night and was trying to make it into his grandmother’s apartment, which is in the same building.
He knocked on the wrong door, though, and the alleged victim took him by the arm when she answered the door and led him into her bedroom, court records said.
She then began to make sexual advances toward him, which he rebuffed. He ran when the woman’s sister came into the room, Moore said in court documents.
Moore gave a similar story to the jury in testimony during his two-day trial, his attorney said.
