Coats statement on 40th March for Life

Statement as issued Friday by Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind., recognizing the annual March for Life:

"Anyone who has ever raised a child, held a newborn baby or witnessed the miracle of birth knows that life is a sacred and precious gift that must be protected from the moment of conception. Today thousands of Hoosiers and Americans came to Washington to affirm that principle and stand up for the sanctity of human life. I commend them for their dedication to defending the defenseless and fighting for life."

Committed to protecting life, Coats recently cosponsored the following bills:

The PROTECT Act of 2013: Preventing the Offering of Elective Coverage of Taxpayer-Funded-Abortion Act of 2013 would ban any taxpayer dollars in the "Multi-State Plan" (MSP) created under the president's health care law from covering elective abortions (with exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother at risk).

Abortion Non-Discrimination Act: This bill would prohibit any health care entity that receives federal funding from discriminating on the basis that the health care professional refuses to participate in abortion-related activities.

Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act: This legislation would prohibit abortion in cases where the abortion is sought based on the sex or gender of the child.

Title X Family Planning Act: This bill would prohibit Title X funding from going to entities that provide abortions, such as Planned Parenthood.
