Store clerk rattled by gunshots

– Two armed men rushed into a convenience store over the weekend, fired a shot at a clerk and ran out without taking anything, according to a Fort Wayne police report.

The clerk told police he was behind the counter at the Burger Dairy III, 811 E. Pontiac St., on Saturday night when a man came through the front door and immediately pointed a silver handgun at him. Then a second man came inside, also pointing a gun at the clerk, the report stated.

The clerk dropped to the floor, a shot was fired and the round struck the counter. He grabbed his own handgun and stood to confront the pair. But the men, who did not say a word and did not steal anything, had already fled the store, the report stated.

Officers were dispatched to the store about 9:45 p.m. A customer in the store at the time corroborated the clerk’s story, the report said.

The first gunman to enter the store was described as black and wearing a black jacket, a black hat and a blue bandanna over his face, according to the report.
