Mark Redding's first season at Carroll has been filled with the ups and downs you might expect.
But there has also been some progress. With a 51-37 win over Class 3A No. 8 Angola on Wednesday, the Chargers have won two straight and three of four with the postseason approaching.
"It gives them the confidence that they can play with good teams," Redding said of the win over the Hornets. "Our schedule shows that. We have played a lot of ranked teams on our schedule.
"I told the girls that they were competing, and it was only a matter of time before we put it all together. Does that mean we are there yet? No, but we are going in the right direction, and we are getting there."
Redding also coached at Wayne and Elmhurst, winning a 3A state championship in 2009 with the Trojans. He is 202-182 overall in 18 years.
Carroll has a chance at a .500 regular season with games left against Bellmont and Concordia.
The Chargers have already exceeded last year's win total of six (6-16).
