If you want fries with that, you have several downtown dining options.But fast food – which is sold on dozens of street corners around town – isn’t enough to draw people to the city’s core.Dunham’s Sports is at it again.
The Waterford, Mich.-based company will open a store at a former Scott’s grocery in Columbia City. This comes a week after officials announced Dunham’s intentions to open an outlet in the Glenbrook Commons shopping plaza in Fort Wayne.
Dunham’s is part of a $4.5 million project to redevelop the 50,000-square-foot site at 496 W. Plaza Drive in Columbia City. Saugatuck, Mich., developer Jeff Kerr said he anticipates the sporting-goods store opening before the summer. In the meantime, Kerr said he is working aggressively to find other tenants for the location.
The project will receive a 10-year tax abatement that will save Kerr $175,000, said Alan Tio, president of the Whitley County Economic Development Corp.
