Haiti PM names new minister to key Cabinet post
The Associated Press
The office of Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe announced the ouster of Ronsard St. Cyr and his replacement with David Bazile, who was security chief for the interim government that followed the 2004 ouster of two-time President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
The shuffle comes as the Haitian government faces mounting pressure from the United Nations and other international partners to hold legislative and local elections before year's end. The interior secretary could have a role in that process because it oversees many local government posts.
The authorities still need to agree on the composition of an electoral council, which will organize balloting for 10 seats in the 30-member Senate and for hundreds of seats at the local level.
Lamothe named new ministers of culture, sports, communications, among others. It's the second sizable shake-up since Lamothe took office in May under President Michel Martelly.
The government's statement issued didn't say why the changes were needed.
