A west-side house fire required an extra engine and took firefighters nearly 30 minutes to control, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said today.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured, firefighters said in a statement.

Firefighters were called to 9308 Sail Wind Drive at 2:15 p.m. on a report of a house fire, the statement said.

It said the first engine found fire showing from a garage attached to the vacant or abandoned two-story home, with fire extending to the second-floor attic.

Crews entered and fought the fire in the garage and on the second floor, the statement said. It said investigators determined the fire started in the garage before spreading to the second floor.
