Snider captures SAC tourney crown

Snider had four individual champions on the way to winning the SAC wrestling tournament Saturday at Snider.

The Panthers had 225 points. Bishop Dwenger took second with 206 points, and Northrop was third with 180 points.

Snider’s Luis Martinez (106 pounds), Erique Early (120), Bobby Humphrey (126) and Ruben Holcomb (285) each won weight classes. The Panthers had three wrestlers take second.

Bishop Dwenger, Wayne and North Side had two individual champions. Austin Hillman (145) and Ben Evans (182) won weight classes for the Saints. Luke Martinez (138) and Shaun Johnson (152) won weight classes for the Generals. Carlos Garcia (132) and Anthony Linnear (170) both won championships for North Side.

Northrop (Logan Aldrich, 113), South Side (Thavanh Xayarath, 160), Concordia (Aaron Olson, 220) and Bishop Luers (Everett Green, 195) also had champions.

NHC TOURNAMENT: Carroll had four individual champions and five wrestlers place second to win the NHC tournament.

The Chargers had 262 points. East Noble (with six champions) finished second with 248.5 points. New Haven was third with 186 points.

Steve Cardenas (126 pounds), Spencer Malcolm (160), Kayne Duncan (170) and Riley Lefever (182) won championships for Carroll. Lefever is 33-0.

Among East Noble’s champions, Garrett Pepple (30-0, 106 pounds) and Connor Knapp (30-0, 113) remained undefeated. Sterling Lutter (120), Tyler Housholder (145), Brandon Joest (220) and Drake Demuyt (285) also won titles for the Knights.

DeKalb’s Zach Krumlauf improved to 31-0 while winning the 132-pound title. Connor Brummett won at 152 for DeKalb.

Bellmont (Brad Busse, 195 pounds) and New Haven (Reese Sieger, 138) also had champions.

NECC TOURNAMENT: Fremont captured the team title with 197 points at West Noble. Churubusco was second with 182.5 points, and Fairfield finished third with 159 points.

Fremont had two champions. Ricky Short won at 160 pounds. Brady Elliott won the 182-pound weight class.
