The Week Ahead

Curtis Smith

Winter is back

After taking a year off, I think we can safely say winter has returned this year. Any doubt will be erased over the next several days as highs dip into the teens and lows approach zero.

This is the kind of cold, even just a few days of it, we simply didn’t get last year. The lowest temperature for the winter of 2011-12 was 3 degrees – 3 above that is. On only two occasions were highs in the teens. We could match that number this week alone.

There is something to be said for having a true winter, but what exactly that is varies greatly from person to person.

Weather wise: One area not living up to “normal” winter standards is snow. So far, we’re just below 10 inches – more than 6 inches below normal.
