Key matchup: The guards for the Irish and Scarlet Knights will be crucial tonight. Notre Dame’s Jerian Grant, a 6-foot-5 junior, is second on the team in scoring (12.6 ppg) and second in assists (5.1 ppg), and Atkins, a 6-2 junior, is third in scoring (12.2 ppg) and is the team’s assist leader. Carter, a 6-2 sophomore, leads the Knights in scoring and averages 2.3 assists, and Myles Mack, a 5-9 sophomore, is second on the team in scoring (13 ppg) and averages 2.6 assists.

The skinny: The Irish have lost their last two games, falling to Connecticut 65-58 on Jan. 12 and St. John’s 67-63 on Tuesday. … The Knights have won three of their last four games. … Notre Dame has won seven of its last nine games against Rutgers.
