Helping set fire to a mobile home netted a prison sentence of one year and a year on probation for a 53-year-old Nappanee woman.
Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Trudy Cook on Thursday to a total of two years in prison on a Class D felony arson charge. Gull ordered one year suspended and to be served on probation.
In December, Cook pleaded guilty to helping her friend David J. Taylor set fire to his wife’s mobile home.
Fire crews responded to the mobile home blaze about 5 a.m. July 1 and evacuated the neighbors. Witnesses said they heard Taylor threatening to set fire to the home, according to court documents.
Cook told investigators she drove him to get gas, went back for a lighter and then set the fire at his urging, according to court documents.
Taylor was sentenced to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to Class D felony arson.
Both were initially charged with Class B felony arson, punishable by six to 20 years in prison. Class D felonies are punishable by up to three years in prison.
