Local jobless rate hit 7.9% in December

FORT WAYNE – Metro Fort Wayne ended the year with a 7.9 percent unemployment rate, up from 7.4 percent in November, state figures released Friday showed.

Joblessness in the metropolitan area – comprising Allen, Whitley and Wells counties – was higher than the national seasonally-adjusted jobless mark of 7.8 percent, but lower than the state's seasonally-adjusted 8.2 percent rate, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development said.
