Blaze erupts at apartment leasing office

Firefighters extinguished an electrical fire in the leasing office of a local apartment building Wednesday morning, officials said.

Crews responded to a fire alarm at South Bridge Apartments, 8310 Bridgeway Blvd., near South Anthony Boulevard Extended and Lafayette Street, about 9:30 a.m.

As firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building. Eight employees were inside the building at the time of the blaze, but all evacuated after seeing and smelling smoke, fire department spokeswoman Stacey Fleming said.

No injuries were reported.

Crews contained the fire to the attic area of the one-story leasing office and the blaze was brought under control about 9:54 a.m. The building sustained heavy fire damage and moderate smoke and water damage.

The fire was ruled accidental, Fleming said.
