Notebook: IU looking for more energy off the bench

BLOOMINGTON – Indiana's bench was limited to just two points in Tuesday's 64-59 loss to Wisconsin.

The Badgers outscored the Hoosiers 16-2 in bench points.

IU had just three bench points in Saturday's win against Minnesota.

"I'm not as concerned about the lack of offense from the bench. I'm concerned about the lack of creating pace in the game. Deflections, defense, you need guys to come in and make plays," Indiana coach Tom Crean said.

"Jeremy Hollowell did a really good job tonight. Hanner (Mosquera-Perea), it wasn't anything he really didn't do, it was just Cody (Zeller) was playing well. We've got to have more talk and more energy from Remy (Abell) and Will (Sheehey) has to get more involved.

"Will is an active, engaged player. Will is the last guy we need, when the shot is not going for him to not be at the same place he needs to be defensively."

The opponent's view

The Badgers came into the game leading the Big Ten in scoring defense. IU was first in scoring offense. The Hoosiers finished with three fast-break points.

"We knew that if they got it going in transition they can score in bunches because all you have to do is look at their game film," Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said. "So our goal was not to let that happen but saying it and doing it, having it as a plan, are two different things. It just so happened to work today."

This and that

Christian Watford scored 11 points. He has 1,503 points in his career. He moved into 15th on IU's all-time scoring list, surpassing Bracey Wright. … Zeller finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. It was the ninth double-double of his career.
