Austin Hatch update

Canterbury boys basketball coach Scott Kreiger said junior Austin Hatch has still not been cleared by doctors to play in a game.

Hatch, who was severely injured in a plane accident during the summer of 2011, was cleared for limited practice drills at the beginning of the season.

He is still a presence at every Canterbury game – in street clothes on the bench – and is listed on the roster.

"It is about the same," Kreiger said about Hatch's status after the Cavaliers' 65-60 loss to Snider on Tuesday. "He is able to do most of the things that we do (in practice), but not all. It's something that is out of our control.

"Austin is where he has been for the past several weeks. He's participating in practice. He has not been released to participate fully. That's an ongoing process. His doctors and therapists will have the final call when he is able to come back."

Hatch was granted an extra year of eligibility by the IHSAA and could play this season or next year in an attempt to play for the University of Michigan one day.
