The Week Ahead

Record warmth

Welcome to Indiana in …

You can fill in that blank with basically any month, but this time January is the proper way to finish a sentence that tells you all you need to know about our weather – it changes in huge ways, and it changes in a hurry.

The latest example came the past few days. Friday, we had a high of 57, setting a record for the date in Fort Wayne. Saturday was even warmer. Today, we will drop a good 20 degrees, and for the rest of the week temperatures will be at or below normal levels, and mid-January has the coldest “normals” of the entire year.

Weather wise: While a few record highs this month are in the 50s, most of them are in the 60s. Not one of them is in the 70s. The warmest January day we’ve ever seen in Fort Wayne was the 25th of 1950, with a high of 69.
