  • Gump Road closure rescheduled
    The closure of Gump Road between Dunton and Coldwater roads to install a storm sewer has been rescheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, the Allen County Highway Department has announced.

    Allen Superior Court has withdrawn its budget appeal for 2015, accepting a $5.54 million budget unchanged from this year, Chief Judge Wendy Davis said today.
  • With county funds short, group cancels request for more
    The presiding judge at the Allen County Juvenile Center has withdrawn an appeal for $96,000 for next year's county budget after finding out last week there is no general fund money left for appeals.


The Journal Gazette Foundation Board recently awarded grants to the following agencies:

United Way of Allen County: $18,750, the fourth-quarter payment of the 2012 pledge of $75,000; a pledge of $75,000 was also approved for 2013.

Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne: $2,500, the fourth-quarter payment of the 2012 pledge of $10,000; a pledge of $10,000 was also approved for 2013.

HSPA Foundation: $1,000 to assist in the general operations of the Hoosier State Press Association Foundation

Fort Wayne Zoological Society: $25,000, the second payment of a four-year pledge of $100,000 to support the capital campaign of the New Australian Adventure

Vera Bradley Foundation: $5,000 for the 2013 Vera Bradley Foundation fundraising efforts to support breast cancer research

Indiana University School of Journalism: $10,000 to fund two scholarships, one undergraduate and one graduate fellowship for journalism majors who reside within the Journal Gazette circulation area

Audiences Unlimited: $3,500 to provide transportation assistance for the elderly to attend various fine-arts programs in the area

Euell A. Wilson: $5,000 to assist in the operations of this central-city youth program

Embassy Theatre Foundation: $250,000 for the $10 million “Vision of the Embassy” building program; grant will be paid in five $50,000 installments beginning this year
