Affleck, ‘Argo’ earn Critics’ Choice wins

– Hours after a surprise snub in Academy Award nominations, Ben Affleck won best director and his film “Argo” was named best picture at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.

Affleck, whose film was nominated for seven Oscars including best picture but not best director, accepted the award Thursday night at the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s 18th annual awards in Los Angeles.

Daniel Day-Lewis from “Lincoln” and Jessica Chastain from “Zero Dark Thirty” won the top acting categories.

Editors mirror Oscar nominees

Some Academy Award nominees got extra love Friday from the American Cinema Editors, which announced nominees in film and television.

In the dramatic film category, the nominees are “Argo,” “Life of Pi,” “Lincoln,” “Skyfall” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

For comdey or musical film, the nominees are “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Les Misérables,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Ted.”

The academy on Thursday had nominated “Argo,” “Life of Pi,” “Lincoln,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Zero Dark Thirty” in its single film editing category.
