Leo-Garrett could happen again

Don't be surprised if the Leo and Garrett girls basketball teams played again in the sectional. It's been a common thing to see the two rivals play each other three times in a year.

Leo earned a split of the first two matchups with a 36-33 win over Garrett in the finals of the ACAC tournament Saturday at Memorial Coliseum.

"We have played five times in a year and a half, and I don't know how either team scores because we know everything everybody is going to do," Garrett coach Bob Lapadot said. "It is a battle, and we will do it again at the end of next month. That's the way it always seems to go."

The Railroaders won Round 1 57-50 on Dec. 1.

Leo coach Carrie Shappell said the game plan was changed for the rematch against Garrett.

"They took away (Taylor) Seiss and (Keanna) Gary, and they did a good job of that again today, but some role players stepped up and did great things," Shappell said.

The two programs have combined to win the last ACAC tournament titles.

Leo beat Garrett three times last year.
