Police: 2 dead after crash that followed shooting

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Northern Indiana police say two men have been found dead in a crashed pickup truck following a police action shooting in Lafayette.

WLFI-TV reports police were called late Thursday night to the parking lot of an IHOP restaurant in Lafayette on reports of an altercation. Lt. Brad Hayworth says at least one shot was fired between two men in a pickup truck outside the eatery.

After police tracked the truck to a nearby home, Hayworth says someone in the truck fired at least one shot at a responding officer, who returned fire.

Police say the truck ended up crashing into a garage. The bodies of the two men were removed early Friday from the truck.

Officers have so far declined to say how the men died.
