Ritz inauguration set 5 days after governor’s

INDIANAPOLIS – Incoming Democratic School Superintendent Glenda Ritz is waiting a few days after the governor’s inauguration to hold her own ceremony.

Ritz announced Thursday that her inauguration will be held Jan. 19 at the Statehouse. Gov.-elect Mike Pence is hosting a series of events this weekend before he takes the oath of office Monday.

The Ritz inaugural event will feature choirs from Brownsburg and Broad Ripple High Schools. Former First Lady Judy O’Bannon, state Rep. Terry Goodin, Court of Appeals Chief Judge Margaret Robb and Emmis Broadcasting CEO Jeff Smulyan are scheduled to attend.

Ritz upset Republican School Superintendent Tony Bennett in November running a campaign against sweeping education changes pushed by him and other top Republicans.
