Meth lab suspected in area man’s burns

A Warsaw man who told police he was burned because of a trash fire could be facing drug charges after investigators learned about a methamphetamine lab explosion.

Toby D. Jackson, 31, was in serious condition at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne with second- and third-degree burns, the Kosciusko County Drug Task Force said.

Jackson initially told officers he was badly injured while burning trash near North Webster. He was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital with burns to his arms, neck and hands and was later transferred to St. Joseph, police said.

Officers searched the area Jackson described Wednesday but found no signs of a trash fire. On Thursday, officers received a tip and discovered a one-pot meth lab near Armstrong Road and County Road 675 East, west of North Webster. The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating; charges are pending.
