Robbery suspect arrested after crash into porch

A suspect wanted in connection with two Fort Wayne robberies led police on a pursuit early today that ended when his vehicle crashed into the porch of a home on Madison Street, city police said.

Justin M. Alexander, 33, of Fort Wayne was held in the Allen County Jail on two robbery charges, as well as charges of resisting law enforcement, a weapons offense and receiving stolen auto parts, Fort Wayne police said in a statement.

Police said callers to Crime Stoppers had identified Alexander as the man seen in an in-store video near where a woman was robbed of cash at gunpoint early Monday morning on Fairfield Avenue. He was also wanted in connection with a gas-station robbery about 15 minutes later on South Anthony Boulevard, they said.

But before detectives located Alexander, the statement said, he led police on a chase from West Jefferson Boulevard and Webster Street at 1:11 a.m. today. Police did not say why the chase began.

Alexander surrendered to police after the crash, the statement said.
