About 3 p.m. Thursday the Rev. Bill McGill looked out of his window and pondered that it was the 37th day of his 40-day fast to draw attention to violence in the community, and there had been no civilian-on-civilian homicides in Fort Wayne.A man badly injured from a shooting made his way into a gas station east of downtown Friday night to ask for help, Fort Wayne police said.
The man walked into the Sunoco station at Hanna and Lewis streets, told the clerks he had been shot and asked them to call 911, said officer Jason Anthony, a police spokesman.
Officers and paramedics were dispatched to the station just after 9 p.m., and the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The man was under going surgery late Friday, Anthony said. His name was not released.
Anthony said the man did not have any information regarding who shot him. Investigators were also trying to determine where the shooting happened.
In treating the victim, the medics left behind his clothing. That was the only evidence collected at the scene, Anthony said.
Police were working to obtain surveillance video from the station. No arrests were made.
