4 area districts to get teacher-performance grants

Four northeast Indiana school districts were among 40 statewide that will receive part of the state's Excellence in Performance for Teachers grant.

The Indiana Department of Education announced that Warsaw Community Schools is to get $435,000, Westview School Corp. is to get $304,000, MSD Bluffton-Harrison is to get $125,000 and Wabash City Schools is to get $71,320.

The winners were selected among 124 applications. The education department said the money is to be used to reward educators evaluated as "effective" and "highly effective" using an evaluation tool that is comprehensive, considers student performance and meets requirements outlined in state law.
