Police seek help in finding robber

Fort Wayne police want the public's help in identifying a man who followed a woman from a downtown gas station and robbed her at gunpoint Monday morning.

The woman told police the man tailed her as she drove south from the Shell station at Fairfield Avenue and West Jefferson Boulevard to a lot in the 2100 block of Fairfield, according to a police report.

After she stopped in the lot, a dark vehicle pulled in behind her. When she stepped out of her vehicle, the man approached her with a handgun and demanded money, the report said.

The woman swung her purse at the man and missed, prompting him to threaten to shoot her if she did it again, the report stated.

The woman gave the man $105, and he drove away, the report said.

The woman called police just after 5 a.m.

The robber was described as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, a winter hat and a black-and-yellow jacket with an emblem on the back. He was black.

On Tuesday, police released a Web link to surveillance video of the alleged robber at a local business. Anyone who can identify him is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 800-237-7867.
