Bluffton boys basketball coach Kevin Leising is looking to employ a new kind of defense.

"The defense we need to come up with is the banked three defense," Leising said after the Tigers' 51-47 win Tuesday. "I guess.

"It was one of those things that I said we would be historic if Heritage comes back to win this. How many bank shots do you see, and back-to-back, with one being a four-point play?"

Leising was scratching his head after Heritage's Wil Knapke banked in two three-pointers as the Patriots almost rallied for the win against the defending ACAC tournament champions.

The closest Heritage did come was four.

On Knapke's second banked three, he was fouled and missed the free throw that would have trimmed the lead to 49-46.

Overall, though, Leising was happy with the play of his defense, which is undersized against most teams this season.

"I am happy with the way we defended because we are not that big," Leising said. "(The Bluffton players) said at halftime, we think we can guard them man-to-man … I said if you want to try. I will give them a lot of credit."
