The Week Ahead

Winter is back

February 10, 2011. That is the last time we were below zero. It’s also the last time we saw temperatures as cold as what we witnessed this week.

Last year, we only had four days that dropped into single digits during the entire season, and we never went below 3 degrees. This week, we had back-to-back nights drop into single numbers including a low of 2 degrees overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. After taking a year off, it seems Old Man Winter is back.

Weather wise: Perhaps the biggest difference this year is the way the snow is sticking around. Last January and February, we never had a snow depth of more than an inch for longer than three days. Less than a week in, this January already has a longer such streak.
