Purdue falls to Michigan State

Gary Harris had 22 points as No. 18 Michigan State defeated Purdue 84-61 Saturday at Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich.

The Spartans used a 25-5 run midway through the second half to pull away from the Boilermakers (7-7, 1-1 Big Ten).

A.J. Hammons had 20 points and seven rebounds for Purdue. D.J. Byrd had 14 points and Terone Johnson finished with 11 for the Boilermakers.

Purdue's Rapheal Davis, from Fort Wayne, had three points and four rebounds. Russell Byrd, also from Fort Wayne, had three assists and two rebounds for Michigan State.

Branden Dawson had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans (12-3, 1-1). Travis Trice (12 points) Denzel Valentine (11) and Derrick Nix (10) also reached double figures in scoring for Michigan State.

Purdue returns to action Tuesday with a home game against Ohio State.
