Tip leads to man’s arrest in robbery try

Bigger

Although he is accused of leaving the bank empty-handed in December, a Fort Wayne man was arrested Wednesday in connection to the failed robbery, police said.

Adam J. Bigger, 28, has been charged with attempted bank robbery, according to a release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. He was released Thursday from the Allen County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Bigger was wanted in connection with the Dec. 21 attempted bank robbery at Chase Bank at 3810 Coldwater Road, the release said. Around 3 p.m., Bigger entered the bank, approached a teller and presented a note demanding money, police said.

Before he received any cash, he left the bank and fled north on foot, police said.

A police dog led officers north from the bank to a nearby mobile home park, but no arrest was made at that time.

Customers were in the bank when the holdup attempt occurred, but no one was injured, police said. Witnesses told police the man did not show a weapon.

Crime Stoppers had received information that led to Bigger’s arrest, police said.

Fort Wayne Police Department records show that there were 15 bank and credit union robberies in the city in 2012, more than in the past four years combined.
