Bryan fire kills 2; baby OK

The parents of a 5-month-old northwest Ohio child died in an early-morning blaze at their home, officials said.

Firefighters responded to the scene at 316 N. Beech St. in Bryan shortly after 1 a.m. and found a two-story home fully engulfed in flames, according to a release from the Bryan Fire Department.

Ashley Jenkins, 17, and Sebastian McConnell, 20, were trapped on the second story during the blaze, but the flames were too intense for firefighters to safely reach them, Bryan Fire Chief Bruce Siders said.

Jenkins’ mother and stepfather, carrying the couple’s son, were able to escape from the home before fire crews arrived.

The fire was brought under control about 3 a.m. Jenkins and McConnell were found dead inside the home, the release said.

Autopsies to determine the cause of death will be completed by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office today or Saturday, Siders said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the release said.
