Art directors give film nods

The Art Directors Guild on Thursday announced nominees for production design. The feature film nominations came in three categories.

•For period films, the nominees are “Anna Karenina,” “Argo,” “Django Unchained,” “Les Misérables” and “Lincoln.”

•In fantasy films, the nominees are “Cloud Atlas,” “Life of Pi,” “Prometheus,” “The Dark Knight Rises” and “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”

•In contemporary films, nods were given to “Flight,” “Skyfall,” “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “The Impossible” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

Nominations were also made in six television- and music video-related categories. Winners will be announced at a ceremony Feb. 2 in Beverly Hills, Calif., with Paula Poundstone as the emcee.

The guild will also honor production designer Herman Zimmerman with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Zimmerman is best known for his work on the “Star Trek” franchise’s spinoff series and films from the late ’80s through 2002.

Production designers Ken Adam, Allan Cameron, Dennis Gassner and Peter Lamont, who have all worked on films in the James Bond franchise, will be honored for outstanding contribution to cinematic imagery, the guild said in a news release.

Preston Ames, Richard MacDonald and Edward S. Stephenson will enter the Hall of Fame.
