Ohio slaying suspect captured in city

A man charged with the Nov. 8 slaying of a 26-year-old Ohio woman was arrested Wednesday in Fort Wayne, officials said.

Daniel Charles Martin, 40, fled the area after the slaying of Melinda S. Shinn at a mobile home in Rockford, Ohio, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said in a statement.

Martin was booked into the Allen County Jail about noon Wednesday and was being held without bail pending an extradition hearing. A warrant was issued for his arrest Nov. 8 and a Mercer County grand jury indicted him last month.

Rockford’s police chief found Shinn dead at the mobile home after responding to a possible shooting, according to a written statement from the sheriff’s department. Neighbors told investigators the couple had been arguing the previous night.

Martin was arrested Wednesday morning after U.S. marshals and Mercer County detectives raided a Fort Wayne home where Martin was staying, the statement said.

Martin has family in Fort Wayne, and his red 1998 Ford Explorer was found in the city the day of the slaying, according to a statement. Officers also seized an AK-47 assault rifle from the home at the time of Martin’s arrest.
